Eric Pickles: 'We want to end bin blight'

New housing developments in England should include sufficient space to store household bins out of view of the street, the government has said.

Updated planning guidance about bin storage is being published next week.

Speaking to the BBC, Communities Secretary Eric Pickles explained that the government wanted to end "bin blight" outside new properties.

He also said that local authorities could do much more to tackle the problem of waste storage for existing properties - such as simplifying recycling processes and being more flexible about collection.
