End war on drugs, says Durham Police chief Mike Barton

One of the UK's most senior police officers has called for class A drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, to be decriminalised.

Writing in the Observer newspaper, Durham Police Chief Constable Mike Barton said that criminals had made billions of pounds from supplying drugs, and a controlled environment would be a more successful way of tackling the issue.
