HS2: Government report lowers economic benefit of project

The government's latest report into the HS2 high-speed rail link has slightly lowered the amount of benefit it predicts, relative to the cost.

The fall in the expected benefit-cost ratio (BRC) from £2.50 to £2.30 for every pound spent is mainly due to a £10bn increase in the scheme's projected £42.6bn cost.

Richard Westcott reports.
