Level crossing mother pleased by rail spending plan

Details of where some £21bn will be spent on the rail network over the next five years have been released, focusing on safety and efficiency.

As well as confirming that 90% of local trains must run on time, the Office of Rail Regulation increased funding by £32m to close around 500 level crossings and improve safety at hundreds more.

Tina Hughes, whose daughter Olivia Bazlinton was killed, along with her friend Charlotte Thompson, at a level crossing in 2005, said the £100m dedicated to dealing with level crossings was good news.
