Row between government and Environment Agency gathers pace

The row between the Environment Agency and the government over how money should be spent to protect homes from flooding has gathered pace.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has accused the agency of giving ministers bad advice, but its chairman Lord Smith responded by saying government budget cuts and rules on spending meant they could not dredge the Somerset Levels.
