Jimmy Savile abuse victims 'completely dismissed'

Several victims of serial sex attacker Jimmy Savile were not believed when they first confided in others, a report by the NSPCC has found.

The charity said it spoke to around 25 individuals and many said they were ignored or laughed at when they tried to report the abuses.

Speaking to the BBC, the NSPCC's John Cameron said Jimmy Savile's "celebrity status... meant that they were completely dismissed".

"Most of them (the victims) are saying very clearly that police need to be continually trained," he added.
