Network Rail boss makes level crossing apology

The head of Network Rail Mark Carne has offered a "full and frank apology" to people affected by accidents and fatalities at level crossings.

The apology came as an MPs' report strongly criticised Network Rail's handling of tragedies in the past.

Mr Carne admitted the company had failed "to deal sensitively" with affected families but insisted measures were being taken to improve safety.
