Stephen Lawrence: Paul Condon 'unaware' of police officer spies

The former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police says he did not know that officers spied on the family of Stephen Lawrence.

A public inquiry has now been ordered into the work of undercover police.

Lord Condon was the force's commissioner between 1993 and 2000, which covered the time of Stephen Lawrence's murder and the Macpherson inquiry.

He told Radio 4's PM programme it was the job of the publish inquiry to find out why he had not been told.
