Tributes to former MP Tony Benn from key politicians

Figures from the world of politics have been paying tribute to Tony Benn, who died on Friday at the age of 88.

Mr Benn became a Labour MP in November 1950 and served in the Cabinet under Harold Wilson and James Callaghan.

Among those who have commented on his life were Labour leader Ed Miliband who called him "a champion of the powerless".

Prime Minister David Cameron described him as an "extraordinary man" who was "always engaging and interesting".

Labour MP Margaret Beckett also reflected on his contribution to politics.

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg MP said he was "an astonishingly iconic figure whether you agreed or disagreed with him".
