Hillsborough inquest: Son's tribute to Eric Hughes

David Hughes lost his father, Eric George Hughes, when crowd overcrowding led to tragedy during an FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough in April 1989.

Background statements are being read out in court at the start of a new inquest into the disaster, which claimed 96 lives.

Mr Hughes described his father as his hero, a "quiet, patient man" who "would do anything to help anybody" and was a passionate follower of Liverpool Football Club.

"My memories of my dad are 99% Liverpool related. He always got me tickets for the games."

"He never let me down so it came as a shock when in 1989 for the semi-final at Hillsborough he didn't have a ticket for me", he added.
