Violent injury figures 'good news for citizens'
Violent crime is continuing a long-term fall in England and Wales, according to annual figures from NHS hospitals.
Cardiff University looked at data from almost a third of emergency departments and found a 12% fall in injuries from violent incidents in 2013.
Speaking to the BBC, the report's lead author, Professor Jonathan Shepherd, said: "It's good news for citizens, it's good news for communities."
He also suggested that a key factor in the drop was that alcohol had become less affordable in recent years, leading to a decline in overall consumption and binge drinking.
