2m grandparents 'leave work to care for grandchildren'

Nearly two million grandparents have given up a job or taken time off work to look after their grandchildren according to a poll.

The survey, by Grandparents Plus, suggested that 40% of grandparents cared for their grandchildren to allow the children's parents to work.

5 live reporter Mark Hutchings spoke to grandparents on the school run in Cardiff to find out why they had given up work.

First broadcast on the BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire programme on 8 July 2014.
