Large section of Eastbourne pier destroyed by fire

Firefighters have spent the night damping down the smouldering ruins of part of Eastbourne pier after a huge blaze.

The roof of the Grade-2 listed structure was completely destroyed by the fire, which is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Fire minister Penny Mordaunt said she would be visiting Eastbourne "as a priority" to speak to local people and thank firefighters for their efforts.
