Prison officer 'stabbed' in Swaleside jail riot

The Prison Officers' Association says a violent incident is taking place at Swaleside Prison on the Isle of Sheppey.

A spokesman from the organisation which represents prison staff says there is rioting taking place within the Category B men's jail - which can hold round 1,100 prisoners - and a prison officer has been stabbed in the unrest.

A recent unannounced inspection found staff shortages and inmates too scared to leave their cells.
