Moazzam Begg: I offered to help over Alan Henning release

Former Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzam Begg offered to help the British government in securing the release of hostage Alan Henning from Islamic State (IS), he has told the BBC.

My Begg told the Today programme that he believed he knew who had been holding the aid worker, who was kidnapped in Syria last year.

He said: "The problem is that the government, in its attempts to demonise and criminalise me, simply refused to look at anything to do with what I was about."

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Tuesday 7 October.
