Moazzam Begg: Full interview
Former Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzam Begg offered to help secure the release of hostage Alan Henning who was murdered by militant group Islamic State last week, he has told the BBC.
Mr Begg, who has had terror charges against him dropped, told the Today programme he was asked to help by friends of Mr Henning.
My Begg said he believed he knew who had been holding the aid worker, who was kidnapped in Syria last year, and had intervened in similar situations in the past.
He said Alan Henning's murder was "despicable".
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Tuesday 7 October.
