Moazzam Begg wanted to make public Henning appeal
Former Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzam Begg offered to help secure the release of hostage Alan Henning who was murdered by militant group Islamic State last week, he has told the BBC.
Mr Begg, who was released from Belmarsh prison last week when terror charges against him were dropped, said he tried his "level best to do what I could to get this man free".
He said he tried unsuccessfully to persuade the Foreign Office to let him make a public appeal from prison to help free Mr Henning.
