Autumn Statement: 'Colossal' cuts to come, warns IFS

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has warned that the Chancellor's spending plans set out in the Autumn Statement would require cuts on a "colossal scale" in order to reduce the UK's deficit to numbers set out.

But George Osborne has insisted that the impact of his proposals has been "exaggerated".

However, some analysts remain unconvinced, adding that public services like the NHS and police would suffer greatly under the proposed plans.
