RAF jets scrambled after Russian bombers seen off Cornwall
The Ministry of Defence says that RAF Typhoon fighters were scrambled over southern England on Wednesday to escort two Russian long-range bombers spotted off the coast of Cornwall.
The Russian Bear aircraft remained in international airspace, and there was no disruption to civilian air traffic.
It happened as the defence secretary, Michael Fallon, warned that Russia could attempt to destabilise more former soviet states in Eastern Europe in the wake of the conflict in Ukraine.
