A newly designed pylon is erected in Nottinghamshire

Electrical history has been made in Nottinghamshire with the completion of the first newly designed pylon for almost 90 years.

The "T-pylon" is shorter than the old steel giants, and is said to be less environmentally intrusive.

According to the National Grid, new pylons are needed to respond to the move away from coal, and towards other forms of energy such as wind, solar and nuclear.
