Menezes family take legal battle to European Court

The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights is to hear a case brought by a cousin of Jean Charles de Menezes.

The Brazilian was shot dead by police officers on a tube train at Stockwell station in London in July 2005.

The case centres on a decision by the CPS not to bring criminal charges against the firearms officers and whether the test is too high in cases involving those who die at the hands of the state.

Spokesperson for the Menezes family, Yasmin Khan, said: "The family believe there was plenty of evidence that came out in the inquest that could have led to successful prosecutions."
