Child sex abuse inquiry a 'unique opportunity to expose failures' - Goddard
An inquiry into historical child sexual abuse in England and Wales is a "unique opportunity to expose past failures of institutions", its chairwoman has said.
Speaking at the opening of the inquiry, New Zealand judge Justice Lowell Goddard described the "permanent scars" left by the abuse of children over successive generations.
The inquiry, which is expected to report its findings in 2020, was ordered following claims of a high-level cover-up of child sex abuse involving public figures, including politicians.
