Restaurant tipping abuse facing probe

Restaurants could face a cap on the proportion of tips they can withhold from staff, following an investigation launched by the Business Secretary Sajid Javid.

At present, there is a voluntary code of practice but restaurants can adopt their own tipping systems.

Recent reports found that a proportion of tips at some restaurants were being spent on administrative costs.
