Liam Byrne: My dad spent 18 years trying to drink himself to death

Where does a child with an alcoholic parent go for help?

Figures exclusively revealed to the BBC show most local councils don't have any special services to support them.

Statistics show having a parent who drinks too much puts them at greater risk of becoming addicted themselves or developing serious mental health problems.

MP Liam Byrne who lost his alcoholic father last year, talks to the BBC about funding for the children of alcoholics. He wants the Government to 'break the cycle of alcoholism' to stop it cascading down on the 2.6m children living with family who drink too much.

John Maguire reports.
