Winter weather: Gusts cause damage and disruption across UK

Thousands of homes were without power after gusts of up to 83mph (134kph) brought disruption to much of the UK on Thursday.

In Jaywick, Essex, a pub lost its roof, so too did a play centre in Suffolk. Elsewhere trees were uprooted, affecting roads and train lines around the UK.
