Paramedic Michelle Ping named Woman of the Year
A Royal Navy reservist who lay on top of a shot comrade in Afghanistan to protect him from further injury has been named Woman of the Year at the 2012 Yorkshire Awards.
Aircraft engineer Michelle Ping has been honoured for her bravery during her first tour of the country last year.
The Sheffield woman usually works for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service in Leeds, but during her tour she was a paramedic attached to various foot patrols.
She was on a routine operation in Helmand when her patrol came under rapid fire.
