'Safety' trains patrol East Midlands rail network to tackle crime

Video footage of people trespassing on railway lines has been released as "safety trains" are introduced in the East Midlands to tackle crime on the rail network.

British Transport Police responded to more than 500 incidents of vandalism and trespassing on railway lines across the region last year.

Inspector Mark Clements said the trains, which are staffed with officers and staff from Network Rail, stop if they see suspected crime on the lines.

Liz Reedy, from Network Rail, said she wanted to tackle children playing "chicken" and placing obstructions on the lines.
