Armed forces widows seek pensions for life

BBC Inside Out meets the military widows affected by a regulation which stops them claiming their husband's pension if they remarry or move in with a new partner.

The Forces Pension Society is spearheading a campaign to give all military widows pensions for life.

Toby Foster speaks to Carol Garside from Grimsby who was sent to jail because she continued to claim her husband's widows pension after moving in with her new partner.

He also talks to widow Clare Entwistle from Scarborough (pictured above) whose husband worked as an RAF engineer. Clare would lose her pension if she remarried or moved in with someone else.

The Ministry of Defence told Inside Out that there is a longstanding principle that pensions should not be improved retrospectively to ensure schemes remain affordable.
