Fresh clues to King John's lost treasure in East Anglia

Historian Dr Ben Robinson retraces the dramatic last days of King John and attempts to uncover the legend of his lost treasure.

The Last Journey of the Magna Carta King follows the monarch's epic last journey across the treacherous marshes of East Anglia to establish whether the crown jewels ended up in the mud of the Wash.

For 800 years, King John's treasure hoard was thought to have been 'lost' in the Fens during his journey from King's Lynn to Lincoln in 1216.

New evidence which provides clues about the mysterious disappearance of the king's treasure has been unearthed using laser technology and LIDAR survey images.

Did the royal baggage train get into trouble in East Anglia and could the king's treasure still be hidden somewhere in the Fens?

Archaeologist Dr Robinson and medieval historian professor Stephen Church attempt to solve the mystery.

The Last Journey of the Magna Carta King is broadcast on Friday, 30 January on BBC One East at 19:30 GMT and nationwide on the iPlayer for 30 days thereafter. It will also be broadcast in a longer version on BBC Four on Monday, 9 February at 20:00 GMT.
