Beamish Museum creates 'dementia friendly' exhibit

Beamish Museum in County Durham has created dedicated areas to cater for the needs of increasing numbers of people living with dementia.

The open-air museum, near Durham City, which features reconstructed buildings from bygone years, has trained staff to look for the signs of someone who might be struggling to cope with a day out.

Visitors are encouraged to spend time in specially designed rooms which it is hoped will trigger memories from the past.
