Trojan Horse: 'Extremism label wrong' says ex-councillor

The government was wrong to talk about extremists attempting to take over Birmingham's schools, former Respect councillor Salma Yaqoob has said.

Ahead of a community meeting in Birmingham, she said the extremism label "is not protecting the kids, but is making them more vulnerable".

She said despite uncovering issues with bullying and governance, Ofsted found no evidence of extremism in 21 schools scrutinised in the Trojan Horse inspections.

She chaired the public meeting in Camp Hill on Thursday under the slogan 'We need to put Birmingham's School Kids first'.

Gathered parents, teachers and politicians heard concerns about inspection reports linked to an anonymous letter alleging an Islamic takeover plot of schools.
