What is cleavage-sparing surgery?
Disgraced surgeon Ian Paterson performed hundreds of breast surgeries which were in breach of national guidelines.
On Friday, he was convicted of intentionally wounding patients by performing "completely unnecessary" operations.
Paterson, who worked at hospitals run by the Heart of England NHS Trust and Spire Healthcare, carried out what became known as 'cleavage-sparing mastectomies'. Rather than removing the whole breast he left tissue behind.
The surgeon's methods were first investigated in 2003 but it wasn't until 2012 that he was suspended by the General Medical Council.
