Replica spitfire built in Cornwall as thank you for WW2 help

A replica Spitfire is being made for an African country that bought 24 Spitfires for Britain in World War Two.

A group of enthusiasts wanted to thank Lesotho, which scraped the money together after an appeal for funds by Britain.

The Spitfire Fund appeal was made to countries friendly with Britain such as Basutoland - at the time a British Protectorate - which became Lesotho.

The Spitfires were used in the Battle of Britain by 72 Squadron based in North Yorkshire.

The full-size fibreglass replica being made at an industrial unit in Withiel, Cornwall, will be presented to King Letsie III in Lesotholand on 11 November.

It will carry the code letters of No72 Squadron.
