Cumbrian fell runner attempts Wainwright peaks record

A Cumbrian fell runner is attempting to set a new record for running all of Alfred Wainwright's 214 peaks in the Lake District.

Steve Birkinshaw hopes to break the 27-year-old record set by Joss Naylor in 1987, who achieved the challenge in seven days, one hour and 25 minutes.

The 45-year-old hopes to beat the record by 11 hours by running 320 miles (515km) and ascending 36,000m in seven days.

He is completing the challenge to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
