Cumbria calls for fairer deal from its nuclear neighbours

More than £1.8bn of taxpayers' money is spent at the Sellafield nuclear plant in Cumbria every year, and more than 10,000 people work on the site.

But it is claimed only a fraction of that investment filters its way back to the people who live and work next door to Sellafield.

Speaking to the BBC's Inside Out programme, ex Cumbria County Council leader Eddie Martin, has called for a so-called "sovereign fund" to ensure local people see tangible benefits for having the nuclear industry on its doorstep.
