Jailed Derby poppy tin thief Christopher McNeil caught on CCTV

A man, who was caught on CCTV stealing a poppy collection box has been jailed for 18 weeks.

Christopher McNeil, of Oakwood, Derby, told police he "couldn't stoop any lower", city magistrates were told.

The 33-year-old threw the box in a river and spent the £4 inside on his bus fare home, the court heard

Derbyshire Police released footage of McNeil stealing the box from Argos in the city on October 31.

He admitted the theft and the court was told he understood the "public outrage" at his crime.
