Free blood and organs courier service in North Devon

A volunteer-run courier service for blood, organs, drugs and breast milk has been adopted by a Devon health trust.

The charity, Devon Freewheelers (DFW), said using the service could save the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust £500,000 a year.

The charity will provide the service between 17:00 and 07:00 each day and 24 hours at weekends and on bank holidays.

In the past the trust had called on emergency couriers when needed.
