Local elections: UKIP unseats Mike Hancock in Portsmouth

UKIP has pushed the Liberal Democrats out of overall control in Portsmouth, unseating the city's MP Mike Hancock from the council after 40 years of service.

Mr Hancock was suspended from the Lib Dems in January after a report into claims of sexual misconduct towards a female constituent was leaked.

He denies the claims, and decided to stand as an independent councillor for Fratton.

He was pushed into third place and his seat went to UKIP's Julie Swan.
