Southampton scientists research body's ability to fight cancer
The University of Southampton is researching how immunotherapy can enable the body's immune system to recognise and kill cancer cells.
The video, which has been speeded up about 100 times, shows a microscopic view of the immune system's single T-cells finding and killing slow-moving cancer cells.
The T-cell visits each cancer cell in turn and enters into the surface membrane, causing it to "bubble" and die.
Scientists at the university say once the T-cells are developed they can provide long lasting protection against further cancer growth.
