Stourport-on-Severn mother 'terrified' after misdiagnosis

A mother says she feared for her daughter's life after doctors misdiagnosed a serious bowel condition.

Doctors at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust told Dawn Wright, of Stourport-on-Severn, her 12-year-old daughter, Abbie, had an eating disorder. Doctors at Birmingham Children's' Hospital doctors later said she had the potentially fatal Crohn's disease.

Three years ago Abbie dropped to 3st (19kg), was so thin she could not leave the house and had to be fed through a tube.

Mother Dawn Wright said: "I was terrified I was going to lose my daughter at this point. I was at a point where I felt that her body was shutting down."

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said it ran tests which suggested Abbie had irritable bowel syndrome.
