East Yorkshire rescue for couple from burning boat

The emergency services have rescued two people from a burning boat on the River Ouse in East Yorkshire.

The vessel was passing Reedness near Goole when it caught fire and started taking on water.

The couple were picked up by the Humber Rescue lifeboat after they abandoned the stricken ship in a life raft.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said no-one was hurt in the incident.

Graham Anderson, from Humber Rescue, said the fire had posed a danger to other boats on the river.

"The heat would have been quite intense," he said.

"Plus, you don't know what's going to explode., so obviously you've got to keep you distance from the vessel.

"Luckily the people had got into the small boat so they were at a safe distance so we can safely transfer them on to the rescue boat."
