Michael Gove opens Leicester free school

The education secretary officially opened the first free school in the East Midlands but was forced to answer questions about the number of school places available.

Michael Gove spent the morning at the Krishna Avanti Primary School, in Leicester, which was set up by a Hindu foundation in 2011 and is run along Hindu principles.

But his visit was almost overshadowed by the news that the National Audit Office warned of a need for 250,000 new school places by 2014.
