Call to force landowners to build London homes

More should be done to make landowners build houses on empty sites in London, according to the Guardian's London journalist Dave Hill.

He believes it is time local politicians were given extra powers. According to the Greater London Authority more than 200,000 homes could be created if developers were made to build on land they owned.

Mr Hill spoke to Ken Jones, the director of Housing Strategy at the London borough of Barking and Dagenham, about how his local authority was tackling housing shortages.
