Moped thief rides wrong way down M11

A thief on a high-powered moped stole 18 mobile phones from people before racing 90mph the wrong way in a police chase.

The pursuit was filmed by a police helicopter on the North Circular Road in north London and the M11 in November 2016.

Zuriel Hutson, 21, and Sharuk Sheraji, 22, had pleaded guilty to offences including conspiracy to steal and dangerous driving.

They had snatched the phones in Westminster, Camden, Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets, over a few hours.

They were spotted by police and they stopped in Whitehall Street, Haringey, where Sheraji ran off but was caught by officers.

He was found with the 18 stolen phones and arrested for attempted robbery.

Hutson rode off, weaving in and out of traffic on the North Circular and the M11, hitting some of the vehicles.

At one point he crashed and fell off his moped but got back on.

Police eventually deployed a "stinger" device, which meant his tyres deflated and he was stopped on the slip road of the M11 to the M25.

Detectives have found 17 of the 18 owners of the stolen mobile phones so far.

The pair from Islington, north London, pleaded guilty in January and will be sentenced on 24 March.
