Dale Cregan 999 call to trap PCs
On the morning of 18 September, Dale Cregan made a 999 call to police reporting that someone had thrown a lump of concrete through his window in Mottram, Greater Manchester.
At the time, Cregan was Greater Manchester Police's "most wanted" and was being sought over the murders of Mark and David Short.
Using a false name, he lured unarmed officers Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes to the house on Abbey Gardens where he lay in wait with a Glock pistol and a hand grenade.
The call was accepted as genuine. Cregan signed off with the words: "I'll be waiting."
