Royal Liverpool Hospital: Medics stage dummy run of big move

Staff at Royal Liverpool Hospital have been testing the procedure for moving patients to its new site with the help of a bed-bound dummy.

Michael the mannequin has been lying in place of critically-ill patients while medics test moving people from the old hospital to the new via a specially-constructed tunnel.

Up to 30 patients from the critical care unit will be moved in a single day.

The entire hospital's phased move will take 24 days and will see services running across both sites during that time.
