Villagers in Hemsby seek £2m from Environment Agency for flood defences

Residents of a Norfolk coastal village where three houses were lost in a North Sea surge last December are asking for £2m to help build new flood defences.

Hemsby villagers met representatives from the Environment Agency on Friday and said they received a positive response.

Two systems, both using recycled materials, are being considered for the new flood defences.

The villagers want the project to start as soon as possible because they fear a repeat of last winter's storms and only one barrier remains between the village and the sea.
