Sniffer dog helps Norwich newt conservation for bypass

Rocky the spaniel is helping with the construction of a new bypass near Norwich by sniffing out newts.

The route of the Northern Distributor Road is home to great crested newts which are protected.

Ecologists have already relocated 340 of the amphibians and Rocky will sniff out any stragglers so they can be safely rehomed.

It's the two-year-old's first foray into newt conservation as he's more used to sniffing out bats on sites designated for windfarms.
