Drought takes a toll on Suffolk's River Deben

The longest drought in nearly a century has already had a serious impact on waterways such as the River Deben in Suffolk.

The Environment Agency is more concerned about the 26-mile river than any other in the eastern region.

Its level depends on run-off from surrounding farmland but with rainfall so low, in some places it is down to a trickle.

Now concerns are growing for the ecology and the communities which depend on it. Over the coming weeks, Look East will chart the story of the drought from the banks of the river.

Richard Daniel reports.
