Archbishop pays tribute to Benjamin Britten

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, paid tribute to the composer Benjamin Britten at a service to mark the opening of the Aldeburgh Festival in Suffolk.

This year the festival is commemorating the centenary of Britten and his partner, the tenor Peter Pears, who lived in the town for many years and are buried at the church.

The service included Britten's Missa Brevis, sung by the boy choristers of King's College Cambridge.

Britten's nephew, Alan Britten, said he was immensely proud and moved by the service.
